That Last Night

For Cotton

I remember that last night
As if it were moments ago
If I had known it was the end
I’d have made it count more

I remember that last night
Holding you in my arms
You were tired, you were done
I begged you not to give up

I remember that last night
All the tears, all the sadness
That kiss on your forehead
That sigh from your mouth

I remember that last night
When I didn’t think it would be
I promised there’d be more
I promised it would get better

I remember that last night
And I wish I could go back
As I Look at your pictures now
And stand beside your grave
